The idea behind the CC license for all intent and purpose is great one. It allows people such as yourself to share knowledge and insight(s) while maintaining ownership of your Work(s).

I haven't read your Book, but I have no doubt a great many students (and non students alike) are thankful for your unselfish act.
That certainly doesn't change the fact that your CC license wasn't respected by some.

Ann by sharing your current situation in this forum you have again brought knowledge and insight to a number of people regarding the all to real pitfalls of a CC license.
I personally think you deserve a big thank you and not the rudeness and arrogance you've been shown.
Best of luck with this situation Ann.

There are no pitfalls to the CC license, unless you count the potential of misunderstanding the concept behind CC as a pitfall.

All CC licenses, whether they allow for commercial use of the materials or not, grant the rights for personal, non-commercial use and redistribution. If that is the kind of fair deal you want to give your audience, release it under a CC license—if not, don't. That's all there is to it.
